Protect Your Affiliate Marketing Efforts

Written By Charles Cooper

Affiliate marketing has been a great thing for many companies and has allowed a large number of people to work from home. However, as with any good thing, there are those intent on abusing it and turning it from a way to make a legitimate living into a tool for thievery. It doesn't matter where on the affiliate program ladder they are-affiliate, merchant or buyer-scammers and fraud can appear anywhere.

However, as with any other fraudulent activity, if you keep your eyes open and your wits about you, you will see the signs and be able to disengage before too much damage is done. Here are some things you ought to look for, some red lights that can save you money, time and a great deal of aggravation.

Abusive Affiliates

Affiliates bent on fraudulent activities typically have their efforts revolve around the payment model, which is usually a pay-per-click or a pay-per-action (sale, registration, etc.) and can be either a manual thing or, in the case of pay-per-click affiliates, fully automated through the use of scripts, called "click bots" that mimic the activities of real human visitors. There is also the danger of credit card fraud and other fraudulent activities designed to simply generate commissions.

You can eliminate many of these problems by taking a close look at those sites that are applying to your affiliate program. By performing some due diligence ahead of time, you will be able to save yourself a lot of headaches later on. Here are some of the things you should do and a few things to watch for once your affiliate is onboard.

Determine Your Payment Strategy

Forget pay-per-click, the fraud potential with that is far too high. As long as you have something to sell, stick with a pay-per-sale (or at least a pay-per-action) model. It is safer for you and more difficult-though not impossible-to defraud.

Research Your Applicant

Are they a first time affiliate or have they built up a track record? If so, when and where and what kind of track record is it? When you visit their site, do all their links work? Do they take you to where you expect to go? Do merchant banners stand out or are they grouped into a massive banner wall? You want to have a thorough knowledge of your potential affiliates.

The Welcome Call

Your affiliate manager should contact each affiliate applicant over the telephone. During this call you will begin to develop a relationship with the new applicant and get to know them. You will also evaluate potential traffic, discuss expectations, offer campaign suggestions and inform them of any special affiliate promotions you may be running.

Managing the Metrics

Once your affiliate is up and running, you need to keep an eye on what they are doing. The two primary metrics you need to be looking at are traffic patterns and conversions. Traffic patterns are simply the flow of visitors through their site and where they go once they click on the affiliate's banner ads. Conversions are those clicks coming to your site that end in either a sale or some other valuable activity such as filling out a registration form. Exactly what counts as a conversion is up to you.

When it comes to conversions, you want to play the averages. The results of your affiliate should not deviate too much from the established average conversion rates (usually about 1-3 conversions per 200 product views) for your business. If they are too low, your ad is probably in the wrong place. If they are too high, you need to consider whether or not your affiliate is using incentives or placing fake orders.

How do your affiliate conversions stack up against the traffic they are producing? To put it another way, if you see a great deal of traffic from an affiliate but few or no conversions, then there may be a problem, especially if you are running a pay-per-click program and your non-affiliate conversions are significantly higher. This is an illustration of why you want to move away from a pay-per-click model and go to a pay-per-sale one instead.

Look to Your Top Producers for Clues

You will have a handful of affiliates that will produce most of your good traffic. Establish and maintain a solid working relationship with this group. Not only will this benefit both you and your affiliates by keeping communications and the free flow of ideas open, but it will also help you identify problem affiliates. In addition, this elite group can provide a kind of benchmark in that any new affiliate that can break into this top group of producers will warrant added scrutiny on your part.

Merchant Mayhem

Just as unscrupulous affiliates can try to cheat merchants; it also works the other way around. Abuses can range from changing the percentage they take before paying their affiliate commission. According to Dave Cosper, Vice President of marketing here at America's Best Companies, "You should always look for programs where the affiliate payout is at least 25% of the product/service being referred."

For example, if a merchant is selling a product for $100, they should be paying the affiliate at least $25. "Here at ABC, for example, we pay a 33% commission to our affiliates for one-year member enrollments," added Cosper. Fraudulent merchants can also deliberately underreporting sales or lead figures. This can be the result of criminal intent or desperation in the face of bankruptcy or some other crisis. Either way, it is the affiliate that pays.

In his article, "The Red Flags of Affiliate Marketing Scams," affiliate entrepreneur Clay Mabbit describes the six things that any potential affiliate should look for when considering developing a relationship with a merchant as well as what they mean.

These signs of a scam are:

No affiliate support contact. When an affiliate program includes a toll-free telephone number, it's a good sign that things are on the up and up.

However, the lack of a phone number does not necessarily mean the program needs to be avoided. The Internet lends itself to email contact, and most websites structure their contact support system accordingly. If the website for an online income opportunity does not include an email or a contact form, though, you are probably looking at an affiliate program scam. Once you locate the email or contact from, it's a good idea to send a message with a simple question to see how long it takes the company to respond. If you don't receive a response addressing your question within a few days, tread lightly. The company might not be intentionally trying to scam you, but if they can't quickly respond to emails, they are doing something wrong.

No website. Similarly a contact email without a website shouldn't instill much confidence. A legitimate online income opportunity will have a detailed web site, providing information and showing some time and energy has gone into planning. A simple website is not difficult to create, but leaves a slightly larger trail leading back to the creator than that left by a mass emailing. Again, while the presence of a website is not a guarantee that a program is trustworthy, the absence of a web site should definitely be viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism.

No product or service. What is the company selling? If the only product is a chance to make money, you've probably stumbled onto a pyramid scheme. In order for any referral marketing organization to make money, someone on the outside must pay money to the organization. If the only people paying are joining the organization, than no income is being generated. The members are just passing money around between themselves with everyone hoping to be holding the bag of money when the music stops. Above and beyond this fundamental flaw in the business model, pyramid schemes are also illegal in the United States.

No free participation. If you have to pay a company for the privilege of trying to sell their product and increase their profits, you aren't looking at an affiliate program. You've found an example of multi-level marketing (MLM). Not all MLM opportunities are scams, and some people are extremely successful at MLM. Unfortunately, if you aren't one of the few who can make it work; you'll usually spend a fair chunk of change discovering this MLM program doesn't fit your needs. True affiliate programs are free to join. If things don't work out the way you expected, you haven't risked any of your money.

No positive testimonials. Even though there is no financial cost for an affiliate program, you will be investing quite a bit of your most precious commodity, time. Before making that sacrifice, it's always a good idea to spend some time scouring the Internet for people who have some experience with your program.

Don't rely on the testimonials a company provides on their website to give you a complete and accurate picture. Head to your favorite search engine and see what kind of dirt you can dig up. A search with the program name and the word "review", "scam", or "experience" is a good place to start. Even high caliber programs will likely have some negative reviews from people frustrated the program wasn't a good fit for them, so don't immediately condemn an opportunity for a little bad press. Unless a program is brand new, though, you should be able to find a few positive experiences and success stories.

No track record. A good affiliate program is going to continue to be a good affiliate program for a while. Resist the temptation to be swayed by marketing hype that urges you to "get in on the ground floor" of a brand new opportunity. Of course, there's something to be said for being the first to market with a new idea, so you shouldn't be afraid to immediately embrace an affiliate program that you feel good about and doesn't set off any of the other red flags described here.

If you are on the bubble trying to decide if a program is legitimate, though, you're better off waiting. In six months dependable affiliate opportunities with quality, high-demand products will still be around, and they'll still be plenty of money to be made. Meanwhile, most of the affiliate program scams will have collapsed.

Bullying Buyers and the Network

Yes, even some of your customers will try to cheat you. You may find yourself facing stolen or fraudulent credit and debit cards, bad checks of various stripes, illegal paypal chargebacks, fake registration information and more. The number of ways that these criminals try to work you over is dizzying proof of human ingenuity if nothing else. This is where a legitimate affiliate network can come in handy. These organizations will check out transactions-credit and debit card numbers, IP-addresses and other things that could indicate fraud-before they take place and often have a fraud database to keep criminals, once they have been identified by their system, from coming back and trying again.

Reputable Affiliate Networks

When considering an affiliate program, either as a merchant looking to recruit affiliates or as a potential affiliate looking for business, it is a good idea to consider joining a reputable affiliate network. They offer safety to merchants and add a bit of credibility to fledgling affiliate sites.

The following is a list of affiliate networks you might consider exploring:

Amazon Associates
Azoogle
Clickbank
ClickBooth
clickXchange
ClixGalore
Commission Junction
Copeac
LinkShare
NeverBlueAds
Paydotcom
RocketProfit
Shareasale
TradeDoubler
The Bottom Line

There is no reason to suffer a scam for long if you do your due diligence ahead of time and are conscientious about managing your merchant-affiliate relationships. Bear in mind that you may receive something that will make you believe that the other side of the relationship is engaged in fraud or some other problematic behavior.

Tread lightly and try to determine the truth of the matter before you take any action that goes beyond the suspect transaction. However, before that happens, plan for prevention. It will save you and your program a lot of trouble down the road.

Affiliate Marketing - Competition Analysis 101

Written By Ryan Matthews

Like the heading states, in this article I'll be discussing competition analysis and I'll be showing you some of the methods to use to do so. We'll be finding out who exactly your competitors are, how many of them are there and what keywords are they targeting. It's pretty important to do this after you have done your keyword research or even better to combine this and do it while doing keyword research. By doing this you will get a good indication of how full or empty your chosen niche is and if it is profitable.
So after doing your keyword research head over to Google, with your main theme or term.

Now take the keyword you wish to analyze and perform a search query. Google will in turn bring back all the results of pages that have been indexed with the word you queried and will highlight it in bold blue. Now this is not the best way to do targeted competitor research, because a lot of the websites brought back don't even target that specific keyword or aren't at all related to that theme. So the number you'll see after performing your search is in most cases extremely bloated and there is not a chance that the amounts of competitors are that high.

To find out exactly how many indexed pages in Google are targeting that exact term or phrase - do the following:

Next add your search term between quotation marks. Now click search again and see how the number drops.
You should see a pretty big drop in the competition after your initial search, but even so you're not done yet. The list of sites you see only have the targeted word or phrase in their content, that's not to say that their site is related or specifically targeting the above theme. So here's how you find out who you're real competitors are - the guys optimizing their sites for the keywords in and around yours.

Start by removing the quotation marks around the phrase in the search box. Then go ahead and add the following directly in front of the keyword (allintitle:) without the brackets and then click search.

Now the number you see after doing the allintitle search will give you the correct competition value. These site's specifically target the queried search term. They use the keyword in their page, content, url and obviously title. So they are truly optimizing their site for that specific keyword, phrase and ultimately that niche.

Ok, so how much is too much competition. Well we personally recommend you to stick to the lower range when it comes to competition, especially in the earlier stages of your affiliate marketing endeavors. Go for niches with competitors less than a 10 000, that's save for now.
Think of it as when you were little, did you try out for the little league baseball team or did you go all the way to the major league... makes sense doesn't it. So stick to what you know for now.
Make sure to play around with this and before you know it you'll find a market with high demand and not enough suppliers. Lookout for gaps like that in the beginning which will make all your efforts worth while.

Lastly, Make Sure To Never Do The Following...

When starting to optimize your website and after you found a valid keyword... make sure that the keyword you chose has sponsored links and listings in Google. Never optimize a page for a certain keyword if it doesn't have sponsored links. The sponsored links and amount of it tells you that there is money to be made from that keyword or niche.

Nowadays it seems like the world wide web is the poster child for producing rags to riches - people are getting caught up with debt, losses or dead end jobs and sure enough some of those people find freedom, success and prosperity online. The Internet has helped 1000's of people to success and online stardom, providing them with a luxurious as well as comfortable lifestyle.
Just look at the top 10 wealthiest people in the world.... Most of them in one or another degree earn millions online, Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc... And those are only the big boys, everyday a new opportunity arrives on the net and it's up to you to find and exploit it.

I think people sometimes get confused by how powerful the internet is nowadays, maybe they're just too old school or whatever the fact remains that the www is a playground of wealth. Almost everyday when asked what I do and I reply, "I'm an Affiliate and Internet Marketer," people go ooohhh aaahhh so you design websites?
Well yeah but thats not how I make my money, these people don't have a clue how a website without selling your own product can make money. And believe me thats the most asked question, how does your site make money? You sell advertising space, right???

For those of you who doesn't know this Affiliate and Internet Marketing is when you promote someone else's product(digital or physical) or service online. By building a keyword relevant and targeted website and then displaying and reviewing the product. You provide the visitor with and Affiliate Link, which contains your specific and unique affiliate id. This ID tells the merchant who's products you are promoting that you sent someone through to his site, now when someone clicks through your link and eventually buys then bamm, you get a commission.

Affiliate Marketing is probably one of the most progressive lines of work to be in, you can seriously start off the first month working art time after work etc and earn $20. Then the next month it an move up to $200 and soon it can jump up to $2000... Making you think of quiting your crummy job, right?

Just Remember Affiliate Marketing is give and take, if you give a lot you'll be taking a lot to the bank. Now I'm not talking about give a lot of money, oh no you need about $80 max to start off your online campaign and thats enough for a year... All you need to give is hard work, dedication and stay focused and motivated.

Is Internet Affiliate Marketing Your Road To Riches - Or Your Freeway To Failure?

Written By Cindyann Williams

Internet affiliate marketing seems to be one of those black/white, love it/hate it kinds of things.

The people who are making tons of money with affiliate marketing can't stop telling you why you should jump right on the band wagon with them - and the people who have never gotten affiliate marketing to pay off for them frequently report that the whole idea is just one huge scam!

Like almost everything else in life, reality is somewhere in the middle - in that fuzzy gray area in between black and white.

My goal here is to help sort out some of the facts from the fiction, and separate the reality from the hype.

First of all, it is completely possible to make a lot of money with affiliate marketing. In fact, people all over the world have "quit their day jobs," "earn six-figure incomes," and "work at home when they want to" - just like all the sales pitches tell you.

But here's what the sales pitches don't include along with all the pictures of mansions, ocean-going yachts, and glorious beach vacation photos.

All those people who have turned affiliate marketing into their "golden egg" have worked hard to do it. Yep. Worked. Hard.

That's reality. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You have to work to get what you want. Mom was right!

If you are looking for instant, no-effort, "push-button" riches, affiliate marketing isn't for you. Sorry, but that's the way it is.

On the other hand, it you are willing to learn some new things, invest some time and some energy in it, affiliate marketing can do everything you want from it - with unlimited rewards for you.

So - straight talk - what do you need to be ready and willing to do to make affiliate marketing pay off for you?

You will need to find a good, honest, easy-to-follow affiliate marketing guide, read it carefully, follow the directions, and be prepared to have some "no-go" results along the way.

Realistically, you could see affiliate marketing commission checks starting to come in after 10-20 hours of reading and applying what you learn from a complete, clear, easy-to-follow affiliate marketing guide. Will those be "six-figure income" checks? No - but they will be a solid beginning - and you can make them keep growing as much as you want to.

Here's one way I look at it - I have a teaching credential and two Master's degrees. That involved a total of six years of graduate school - after four years of college. And all that education produced a teacher's income (not great, in case you don't already know). That worked for me, because I love kids and teaching. But when cancer treatments forced me out of my classroom, I had to find something else - and fast.

There was no time for more formal education (and no physical ability to do it any more). I learned affiliate marketing on a "learn as you earn" basis, and once I finally figured it out, I started seeing affiliate paychecks within weeks.

When you consider that I actually learned an entire new career for the price of some ebooks and some time in front of my computer - that's really pretty amazing. What other new career can you start with very little money or time?

The biggest problem I faced was finding understandable, straight, complete, no-hype guidance to starting my affiliate marketing business. So many products gave me partial information, assumed I already knew a lot of things that I didn't know, were full of "techno-babble," etc. Right there is where I lost a lot of time and money (and I couldn't afford to lose either one of them!).

So being a teacher, when I finally put all the pieces together in a money-making way, I wanted to share it with other people. You can learn more about what I learned by clicking below.

CindyAnn Williams is a self-taught, successful internet affiliate marketer who began her internet business with absolutely no knowledge of affiliate marketing. She has built her business by trial and error, always trying again after every dead end, and learning from every mistake.
CindyAnn's goal is to share what she has learned to help other people who want to become successful affiliate marketers avoid the many mistakes she made along the bumpy and often detour-filled road to affiliate marketing success.

The Road to Wealth in Affiliate Marketing

Written By Michael Shepard

Affiliate Marketing is a very effective means of Secondary or even Primary means of Income and really is very simple to do today when it comes to the Internet. The Internet Provides us with unlimited sources of Affiliate Opportunities.
Anyone today with little to no Marketing skills can be introduced to the basics of Affiliate Marketing and build themselves an entire Business around it, Granted you will have to learn from your mistakes, some costly, but that's one of the basic Principals of becoming successful.

To really become successful and rise above the rest you really need to target one Niche area and focus all of your efforts on that one particular Niche. It really is crucial that you have a full and complete understanding of your Niche product and or service and how it operates.

In case you didn't know 98% of Affiliate Marketers will cease to make it in the Industry Because they will either go broke in advertising or just give up and quit before they get a full understanding of the marketplace and how it really operates. It is a necessity to have a good high percentage (Roi) return on investment in order to make it.

Affiliate marketing can be a very bumpy road in the beginning, especially if your new to the market and just learning you will experience plenty of ups and downs, but most important of all don't give up! Learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them. Just because your'e an affiliate marketer and you don't have to have any contact or deal with any customer relations doesn't mean you don't have to have a full understanding of your Niche. A full understanding of your Niche Market is where the effectiveness of your Marketing efforts comes into play.

Countless Dollars can be spent in Advertising on the internet. Lets face it you can spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars all in vain if your not making a good return on your investment, not to mention all the time you spent in doing so. You need to make a good return to get paid for your time as well. I have found that the best way to be Successful is to buy the re-sell rights to digital products ( Downloadable) and to create your own mini websites, meaning, a one page product or service type site.

Here is how it works, You build a 2 page mini website, One landing page and One Thank You page as to where they are re-directed after the purchase so they can then download the product or services. You then Distribute amongst the popular Merchant vending Affiliate sites such as Clickbank, PayDot.com, Rocket Profit, and so on.... These are some of the most popular and well respected among the Internet Marketplace.
These that I mentioned have hundreds of thousands of Affiliates vending their products and or services. You don't have to do any recruiting or advertising these Affiliates are already members and seek you out. Once you put your Products/Services in their marketplace your going to have thousands of very active affiliates doing all your distribution for you, and their spending all of their money in doing so.
This is really the only way that you will ever find that "Auto-Pilot Money Making System" term that is so widely spread amongst the Internet today. If you do not have the skills to build these mini sites make a tiny little one time investment to have them built, Because I can promise you a very quick turn-over. (roi)

After you get these sites built and distributed amongst the marketplace, be very good to your affiliates, meaning, payment of 50-75% directly to them for their efforts and spending their hard earned dollars in advertising. You really should give a very large percentage because that is an effortless sale and Dollars in your pocket that you wouldn't have made otherwise, not to mention that the better the percentage to the Affiliate, the more Affiliates your going to get promoting your products and or services in the marketplace.
Make sure you put an Affiliate sign-up link at the bottom of your mini site so that when these Affiliates are distributing your site amongst the internet, other Affiliates will see this and sign-up and distribute for you as well, this makes it Viral. A Chain-reaction type of effect starts to develop. Usually Clickbank or whatever marketplace you choose to do your distribution for you will provide you with an Affiliate sign-up link and landing page.

Well this Concludes my session for Today, I hope this advice helps you on your road to Affiliate Marketing Success.

To your Success. Regards, Mike @

Thinking Of Becoming An Affiliate Marketer? Avoid These Mistakes

Written By Claude Pelanne

Starting your home business and making a push to become financially independent is one of the main motivations for becoming an affiliate marketer. The barriers to entry are non existent and there are literally thousands of products to sell. With this seemingly wide choice of selection and the even wider opportunity for making money, who wouldn't consider joining the ranks of the online marketer?

But there are some caveats you should respect if you make the decision and they are not to be ignored.

Due Diligence

The first is to do very serious due diligence on the affiliate you decide to represent. A common mistake is to pick a product on the "buzz" that has been created without digging deeper into who is behind the product launch. Find out everything you can about the person behind the product.

Have they delivered in the past? Are they reliable in paying out commissions on time? I make a point of trying to find out from another affiliate marketer if they have had any experience with this person. Just recently, one phone call with just such a person saved me time and money on a "buzzed" product my instincts told me was not all it was cracked up to be.

It's important to take the time to do your homework and check things out before you make your decision. Your very success depends on it.

Trust and Confidence

The second point is to select only those products you understand, have researched and truly believe in. This means owning the product yourself and trying it out, to see if you are comfortable that it delivers what it is supposed to deliver.

This goes directly to the issues of trust and confidence you are putting in the product and it also addresses the trust your customers are putting in you to give them what they are paying for.

Focus

Finally, focus only on those products that have your undivided attention. There are literally thousands of products to choose from in the affiliate marketing space. With each product potentially representing an income stream, the temptation is to sell as many as possible and have as wide a sales funnel as you can get. This is a very unwise move because it gives the appearance of selling and can be a real turn off for your customers.

The better choice is to select one or two products that pay a commission of 50% or better and market them as much as you possible can. This will show that you really believe in what you are selling and raises the chance of creating a good revenue stream.

This approach keeps things clear and focused for your customer base. It makes it easier for them to find what they are looking for and also easier to decided to buy.

Conclusion

These key points are often ignored by many affiliate marketers who pay for it in lost business. They are losing customers they are unaware of and don't realize the extent of their mistakes.
But their mistakes can be your opportunity for a prosperous and successful business launch.

Make the effort and take the time to implement these key steps and you will be will on you way to success and to fulfilling your goals.
May your travels be prosperous?

Success With Affiliate Marketing

Written By Jerry Hobby

What is Affiliate Marketing?
An affiliate-marketing program is an agreement between a company that has products or services for sale and anyone who believes they can help to sell those products and services for the company. In short, if you have products and services, consider using an affiliate system to get the word out about your products. Alternatively, if you have a popular website, consider putting someone else's products or services on your site and earning commissions on your sales.

Who Should Sell Through Affiliates?
If you offer any products or services on your website in such a way that customers actually make the payment on the website, then you are a good candidate for selling through an affiliate program. If you tend to "close the deal" over the phone, then the affiliate management company will be unable to know when sales occurred and will not be able to administer the program for you.

Your product should have appeal to people throughout the nation or even the world. Local products are harder to sell through affiliates although it is possible.

Why Sell Through Affiliates?
Imagine having ads for your products placed on hundreds of websites throughout the nation or even the world. Companies such as NetFlix.com are very successful with their affiliate programs.

Who Should Sell Products Using Affiliate Marketing?

If you have a website that is rich in traffic but poor in generating cash in your pocket, then you are the perfect candidate for adding affiliate marketing to your website. Affiliate programs are ideal for anyone that already has content and visitors. If your site is not very popular then an affiliate system may not be worth the trouble. For this article, we will assume you are the ideal candidate for affiliate marketing.

The KEY to success is to ad products to your site that are highly appealing to the people that visit your website. If your website does movie reviews, you want to partner with NetFlix.com and other video or entertainment programs. If your website focuses on gardening, then add gardening and home improvement products to your website.

How to Get Started
Whether you buy or whether you sell, it all starts by joining an affiliate marketing management company. These companies do all the hard work of tracking sales, paying commissions, and matching product companies with webmasters who want to add affiliate products to their site.

Secrets to Success

It is important to consider the many factors affecting the success of an affiliate marketing system. There are so many factors that we cannot go into them here. 10 Tips To Consider When Promoting An Affiliate Marketing Program

Written By Fay Ferris

We've all heard horror stories about being involved in affiliate programs and networks. These stories may have come from illegal or suspect programs that created a lot of hype without having real and worthy products behind them.

It is obvious that you want to be associated with a program that offers a high-quality product that you will readily endorse. A program's growing number of existing members and successful affiliates' stories can be proof that it's worth your time to consider joining.

How do you choose a good affiliate program to promote?

Here are some tips to guide your choices:

1. Look for products and programs that cater to a growing target market. This will give you repeat business from your customers and referrals. Check out forums and discussion groups for reliable feedback.

2. Choose products that you are interested in. If you are interested in purchasing the product yourself, the chances are good that there are many others who are also interested in buying the same product.

3. Associate yourself with affiliate programs that promote products that people can use. Research your niche market and find out if there is a real need for what your prospective product has to offer. Check out the competition and see how your product compares in price and features. This is what your buyers will do. You want to offer value to that market.

4. Look for a high quality program to promote that is associated with experts in that area. If they are willing to endorse a program, you can be more assured that the program has a high standard. Member and customer testimonials add to the credibility, too. Forums and discussion groups are a good place to ask someone else what their experience has been with the product you want to offer.

5. Join programs to promote that pay the affiliate 30% or more of each sale. Some programs will pay you a commission up to 80% of the cost of each product you sell. Do not waste your time with programs that are not willing to substantially reward you for your efforts.

6. If you're interested in receiving a residual or passive income each month (one that keeps paying you after the initial sale) look for a program that offers to add more resources and tools after you buy in and on an ongoing basis.

7. Watch out for programs that require minimum quotas or sales targets that are hard to achieve. Some affiliate programs impose difficult restrictions before you get paid for your sales. Be sure that you are capable of attaining any requirements they have.

8. Select a program that has plenty of tools and resources that can help you grow your business in the shortest possible time. Not all affiliate programs contain tools that you are useful to you.

9. You will want a program that provides a system for you to track your sales and check your commissions. It can also be important to you that your stats are available without restriction.

10. Look for programs that offer strong incentives for members to renew their memberships. Affiliate programs that provide continuous help and upgrades and new products have a stronger tendency to retain members and can assure the growth of your network.

Using these 10 tips to choose wisely, you will gain a thorough and working knowledge of the affiliate programs you want to promote. And you will not encounter any surprises along the way.

Knowing the kind of program you are getting yourself into in advance will also increase your enthusiasm for your business that will show up in your promotions and increase your sales.

Internet Based Affiliate Marketing - Common Mistakes You Do Not Want To Make

Lily Boynton Written By Lily Boynton

Many affiliates fail because of their ignorance of how the entire business operates. Internet based affiliate marketing is not as simple as promoting products through your sites and get rewards by doing so. It is also about knowing the market and the customers. Understanding the most common mistakes will help you avoid making the same mistakes.

The first common mistake affiliates make is their lack of knowledge of how search engine works. Affiliate marketing involves advertising. Online advertising could not have been better without the existence of search engine. It's important to learn how to optimized your website to be search engine friendly.

The second common mistake is overfilling the website with banners that do not provide enough information about the product at hand. This common mistake can be avoided by providing good content hand in hand with such banner. Good content also will help customers understand the features of a product.

The third common mistake is promoting only a single product. By promoting only one product, customers do not have enough option to choose. Consequently, with only one product you will likely generate fewer sales. It is always better to give customers alternatives than to give them only one choice.

The fourth common mistake is promoting too many products. This mistake could result confusing customers. In the end, they may not be able to make up their mind. It is better to give them fewer best choices. Ultimately, they can decide which best product to promote.

The fifth common mistake is choosing the wrong product to promote. It is not a wise decision to promote products just because they are high demand. Consider choosing products you truly interested first, then do some research to see if there is market for the products. It is easier to promote product that you are passionate about than promoting them just for the sake of earnings only.

The sixth mistake is joining too many affiliate programs. Because joining affiliate program is easy, you might be tempted to join multiple programs as fast as you can in order to maximize earnings. However, promoting numbers of program simultaneously will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them. The best way to get excellent result is by joining the program that pays substantial amount of commission, and then promotes the program aggressively. You might want to join another affiliate program after you are successful promoting the previous one.

The seventh mistake is promoting the product you do not buy or service you do not use. As an affiliate, your goal is to promote products or service effectively and convincingly to your customers. It is difficult to recommend products or service if you have not tried them yourself. By trying the product or service, you will be able to give your customers credible information truthfully.

In Internet based affiliate marketing, it will be beneficial to understand the path step by careful step. There is no other way to succeed than to go through the path slowly but surely. In the end, people fail because they do not exert enough effort to understand everything involved in the industry they are involve in.

Affiliate Marketing Suits Any Website, No Matter What Your Content

Written By G. Gross

Affiliate marketing is a type of Internet advertising which was developed largely in the style of the pre-World Wide Web strategy called revenue sharing. In those days businesses would pay commissions to other businesses or individuals for referring customers to them. Online affiliate programs work basically the same way although they are a bit more complex and operate on a much larger scale.

Anyone who begins their own Web site can become an affiliate and any page on the Web has the potential to become an affiliate site. There are even free affiliate programs available online.

Affiliate programs are networks made up of affiliates, advertisers and merchants, usually under the supervision of affiliate program providers or managers. Affiliates, also known as publishers, create links and include advertisements on their Web sites. When Internet users click on an ad or link they are directed to another site where, ideally they purchase goods or services.

Of course none of the online affiliate programs will make you a single dime unless your site is generating significant targeted traffic. As a rough guide, you will need at least 500 targeted unique visitors a day to your site to make reasonable money from affiliate web programs. With paid affiliate programs making you money from your online website, you do not have to worry about putting up sales pages that would appeal or trying to convince your visitors to go to a website. The greatest benefit of such system is that when you are just starting out in your own online business you don't have to worry about creating your own product or service.

Most Internet affiliate programs are free to join while giving you the opportunity to start a business and build consistent revenue. When someone begins the search for a business on which to make money, it is almost always an affiliate program that catches their eye, probably because most of them are free to join. This is an excellent way to earn money especially when you are starting out.

Affiliate marketing suits any website, no matter what your content. If you type in affiliate programs to the search box in the top right corner of this page, you'll notice there is a huge range of affiliate programs available. When you find one that suits the content of your website its simply a matter of signing up and placing the advertisements on your pages.

One great way to make a lot of money using affiliate or publisher programs is to create a product review web site. You can review any product you like from cell phones to MP3 Players to furniture and everything in between. Place an affiliate link to a web site where the product being reviewed can be purchased. This is especially useful if you gave a certain product a very good review and tempted readers to purchase that specific item.

Hold You By The Hand Report To Make Sure You Succeed In Affiliate Marketing

Written By Ivan Ong Shao Kuang

Cost per Lead is the cost for each lead that is generated (this could be a person asking for a quotation for instance). Cost Per Action or cost Per Lead is the most logical choice based on its minimal risk proposition - with an advertiser not paying for any marketing unless an acquisition is received. With Pay-Per-Lead you only pay when you receive a lead and the average cost per lead is lower than magazine advertising according to data from independent research.

Lead generation experts point out there are a number of different influences that can greatly impact the overall Cost Per Lead metrics, including the definition of a qualified lead as well as the cost of the solution or products offered. Lead generation is the use of a computer program, a database, the Internet, or a specialized service to obtain or receive information for the purpose of expanding the scope of a business, increasing sales revenues, looking for a job or for new clients, or conducting specialized research.

In order to start earning with Cost per lead affiliate programs, you need to sign up for some affiliate network that offers pay per lead offers so that you can start promoting them. One of the most popular ones is probably Hydra Media or Primary Ads. Just Google the names and you could have no problem locating them in the first page of the search engine.

Next come the advertising portion whereby you need to drive massive amount of traffic to you website landing page. Normally, what I do is I use Pay Per Click to drive the traffic because this kind of traffic is fast and highly targeted. Don't worry about ad expenses because the lead that you generated would easily cover your advertising expenses many times over.

Cost per lead marketing is probably the easiest method of earning money online because you do not need to produce a sale in order to make money. All you have to do is just to get someone to fill up a form. Simple!

Six Best Money-Making Secrets for Affiliates

By Paul Jerard

The affiliate marketer is a new breed of entrepreneur. Being self-employed full, or part-time, with hardly any overhead, is a dream come true for those who have an independent-minded attitude. In the corporate world, an entrepreneur is too much of a free thinker for micro-managing companies to deal with.

With the creation of affiliate programs, anyone with a PC or laptop can be in business overnight. In fact, anyone can earn money as an affiliate within a short time. Yet, it seems like there should be so much competition – why do so few affiliates have great success?

Many people try their hand at being an affiliate for a week or two and abandon the project. Why? In truth, real money will not be realized within a short amount of time. Everyone expects the Internet to deliver instant cash, but self-employment requires a start-up period.

If you opened a small store on the main street of your town, how long would you expect to develop it before you took a paycheck? One year or more is a conservative estimate and retail is not what it used to be - so let’s say two years.

Now you might be thinking, “But I just saw an infomercial - they promised instant success and profits; I could make thousands a month and be semi-retired in no time.” Sometimes, people do get lucky and they win the lottery too. However, the basics of business still apply within Internet marketing circles.

It requires time to building a web site, blog, and mailing list. You want to have a site that is optimized for the search engines (SEO). Once your site is Search Engine Optimized, you need to have a way to get Email addresses from your visitors.

Here are six steps to consider when developing your own affiliate marketing business. You might have to spend time and a little money, but your overhead is so low, there is no risk.

1. Do your research. Decide which affiliate programs to join and which products or services you want to endorse. Choose products and services you have used, are familiar with, or are interested in.

2. Develop a website, blog, or both. You don’t have to pay a fortune for this feature, but you may need help with some of the technical aspects. If so, see if you can partner with someone who has expertise in the areas where you are lacking.

3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): You may need professional help here. There are books and online resources to get you started, but eventually most of us need someone with in-depth SEO knowledge.

4. Develop a system for collecting the Email addresses of your visitors. Give free information about the products or services you endorse, in exchange for a name and Email address. Follow up with a newsletter once or twice per month. Let your subscribers know about latest specials, features, and benefits of the products or services you endorse.

5. Turn your site into an adventure. It should be a pleasure to visit your site. Visitors love to come back to videos, informative articles, Podcasts, Blogs, forums, old newsletters, and FAQ’s. Give your visitors everything they are looking for.

6. Never give up. Most affiliates lack the commitment of an entrepreneur. Remember that Rome was not built in a day. Keep moving forward - one step at a time. There is nothing quite like the first affiliate check you receive. You may want to photocopy and frame the first one.

The More the Merrier - Affiliate Marketing

By Charles Cooper

The Internet has changed the way we do business as much as it's changed so many other things about our culture. What began with a military computer networking scheme that developed into ARPANET, which connected a number of universities around the United States, has turned to a necessity for both individuals and businesses across the globe. This has led to a revolution in how business is conducted. In fact, few, if any, business functions today are not in some way informed by the Internet and that is especially true in the realm of sales and marketing. When you think about online marketing, what comes to mind? Search engine optimization or e-mail marketing are probably at the top of the list, but there is something else in the marketing arsenal that you may be overlooking: Affiliate marketing.

How Affiliate Marketing Works

At its most elementary level, affiliate marketing is a fairly simple and straightforward affair in which one business partners with another, placing an ad link on the second company's website and paying that company for every sale that a visitor sent over from that affiliate site makes on the seller's site.

It is a solid, reciprocal relationship. The affiliate drives customers to the seller and the seller pays the affiliate for the traffic. This type of business arrangement, where the seller pays a commission for sales leads, is referred to as revenue sharing, and has been around in one form or another for as long as large scale sales efforts have existed. It entered the world of ecommerce the same way that so many other innovations have, through the adult entertainment industry.

However, while it may have begun with a company called Cybererotica, by 1994 the concept had spread into the Internet mainstream with a music company called CDNow and its BuyWeb Program.

It began, as all such ideas, as the solution to a business need. Geffen Records wanted to market its music directly to consumers over the Internet but didn't want to actually do the job itself. CDNow developed a program that would directly link an artist's page on CD

Now's site to the artist's music page on the Geffen website. It didn't take long to catch on with other Internet-based companies.

Amazon launched its own pay-per-action affiliate program in 1996. If a visitor to the affiliate followed the link to Amazon and bought a book, then that affiliate received a commission. Amazon may not have been the first on the wagon with this idea, but they were certainly the best. Their program became the model for affiliate programs everywhere and in 2000 they were awarded a patent (6,029,141) on all of the most important parts that go into an affiliate program.

The rise of Web 2.0, with the improved communications it allows, as well as blogging and the development of interactive online communities and social networking sites have changed the way affiliate marketing is conducted and have made it much harder for the criminal (or merely the unscrupulous) to make money. Today, affiliate marketing has grown into a massive industry with many new and novel types of affiliate arrangements.

Managing an Affiliate Program

Taking an affiliate program from concept to completion requires knowledge of the audience you are trying to reach, a proper budget and, most of all, the right choice of program (or programs) and compensation package to fit your needs.

Know your Audience

Any first year marketing student will tell you that you have to know your audience before you reach them. If you are selling a product that will appeal to a mass market, such as music or electronics, then you want a broad presence that will be seen by many people. If, on the other hand, you sell medical supplies or some other niche item, you will want to target your advertising more carefully, concentrating on the people most likely to be interested in your products and services.

Setting a Budget

Affiliate advertising is, usually, a pay-per-action (also known as a cost-per-action or CPA) affair. In other words, something that you and your affiliate have made an agreement about happens, such as an ad link being clicked and a sale being made, and you owe that affiliate money. This is different from pay-per-click (also known as a cost-per-click or CPC) arrangements where payment is made for each click on the ad. That means, whether or not you convert that click into a sale, the affiliate gets paid.

This is in stark contrast to display ads where you pay once and the more customers respond the cheaper the ad (in terms of cost per customer). Because of this, it is important to be able to set an advertising budget-especially for pay-per-click arrangements-large enough to pay for the number of expected clicks or actions, regardless of the number of sales that result.

Types of Affiliate Programs

While there are no real industry-wide standards for categorizing affiliate marketing sites, the following is a basic list of the types of sites that are used by affiliate marketers:

  • Click-per-action networks are affiliates that expose their advertisers to their own network of affiliates (also known as top-tier affiliates)

  • Search affiliates that use pay-per-click search engines to promote advertiser offers
Co-registration affiliates that include offers from other companies during the registration process for their own website.

  • Blogs and RSS feeds
    Email list affiliates
    Comparison shopping and directory sites
Loyalty sites that provide some kind of reward system for purchases
    Coupon and rebate sites
Content, niche and product review sites
    Personal websites

Getting Paid: How compensation works

You are paid by your customers, your affiliates are paid by you, but how? There are a number of different compensation schemes and either you or your affiliate will have a preference for one or another. In some cases the issue is negotiable, in others it is not. The various compensation schemes are:

  • Revenue sharing, also called "cost-per-sale" (CPS) is the compensation method of choice today, accounting for 80% of all affiliate programs today.
  • Cost-per-action (CPA) is the second most prevalent scheme in use today, accounting for another 19% of affiliate programs.

  • Other methods such as cost-per-click (CPC), where the advertiser pays for each click, and cost-per-mille (CPM), where the advertiser pays for every 1000 ad views, come in at 1% of affiliate programs. The use of these methods declined over the years for a variety of reasons that included the necessity to pay even though the ad failed to produce sales and, in the case of cost-per-click, fraud. These methods are, however, still used extensively in display advertisement and paid search programs.
CPS and CPA schemes have higher expectations before a commission check is issued to the affiliate. In fact, as the names imply, the customer has to buy something. Only then will the affiliate receive payment. In this arrangement the advertiser and the affiliate share the risk of the venture. It is from this model that affiliate marketing gets its other name, "performance marketing." To make it under these rules, the affiliate must send only the best leads since it is only after a sale is made that the advertiser will reward the affiliate.

Multilevel Programs

While the vast majority of affiliate programs are simple, one-tier affairs, it can go beyond that. Such programs fall under the heading of multi-tier marketing: An advertiser makes an agreement with an affiliate. This is the "top-tier" affiliate. That affiliate then attracts other affiliates and the deal moves down to them. Our top-tier affiliate is paid at the agreed upon rate and gets a commission on everything that the "second-tier" affiliates bring in. Any referral program that develops beyond these initial two levels is considered a multilevel marketing or network marketing scheme. Given the terrible reputation these businesses have, it is wise to simply avoid them completely.

Finding Affiliates

  • It is not difficult to find affiliates. In fact, almost any website could be recruited as an affiliate. Bear in mind that high traffic websites will likely prefer CPM or CPC deals because these have a lower risk than CPA or revenue sharing. Some places to look while recruiting include:
Affiliate networks that already have a number of advertisers. These networks normally have a large number of potential affiliates for your company.
  • Sites that are relevant for the same audience that the advertiser is trying to reach. As long as the potential affiliate's site is not in direct competition with the advertiser, it can work.
Vendors or existing customers could be recruited as long as doing so doesn't pose any legal or regulatory issues.
  • Affiliate program directories
Pros and Cons

The cost-per-sale model makes affiliate advertising very popular since you only pay for results. The biggest con regarding this method of marketing is history itself. Spam, adware, spamdexing, trademark bidding, pay-per-click fraud and a number of other issues have given this kind of marketing a bad name over the years. These troubles, however, are becoming less and less prevalent due to advances in technology and better methodologies for dealing with them. This, coupled with the way one only needs to pay for results, leaves affiliate marketing as a strong way to reach the audience you are looking for.

Affiliate Revenue - 3 Strategies to Get You Started in Affiliate Marketing

Written By Hendry Lee

Getting started in affiliate marketing can't be easier. The benefits are tremendous and you can start on a shoestring. Where else can you start a business with nothing but a computer and Internet connection?

As an affiliate, you don't have to create your own product. There's no fee involved in signing up as an affiliate and you can promote almost any kind of product from books and ebooks to apparels and services.

Here are just three strategies to get you started in affiliate marketing:

1. Pay per click

It is the fastest way to get targeted traffic. Search engine users range from information seekers to people who are ready to buy at the moment they find a good deal. Some even will buy only from the vendor they know. Just that they try to locate the product from the vendor in the search engine.

Pay per click lets you get started in affiliate marketing quickly. Sure, you have to know what you're doing, such as designing a converting landing page, write compelling pre-sell and so on.
However, the cost per click are relatively low and you can start with limited budget and grow from there.

2. Article marketing

It's a fact that people are browsing online to get information and entertainment. If you can provide the kind of information they want and place them in places or sites they can find easily, you will get the traffic.

What you'll do with the traffic is up to you. As an affiliate, you can build your list and offer them affiliate products. Another way is you can pre-sell them first and direct them to the product sales page immediately.

You only have to know your keywords, write the articles and post them at strategic sites such as popular article directories or social media sites. If it ranks highly in search engines, you can free traffic. It's like free money, besides the time you spent writing the articles.

3. Advertising

Like pay per click, but you don't buy based on keywords. Advertising in niche sites that are related to the product you offer is another way to tap into the stream of traffic and people who are interested in that particular topic.

For example, you can advertise gardening tools in gardening web sites. You know you'll get people who are into gardening and more likely to buy the products.

Affiliate marketing can be a full time business. You can also use it to test the popularity of a product before creating your own similar or related product to offer to the existing customers or sell for higher profits.

Are you struggling with marketing technologies to start and promote your online business?
